Well school is going to be an internship for the next 16 months 90% shot I'll be moving far away from, well everything I've known. I've been in a 100 mile are for my whole life, for 22 of the 24 years it's been in really a 10 mile range.

There are a few probable places but... nothing's in stone and I don't even know all my offers till the 11th starting.

Has anyone had to pick it all up and move alone?

It's only 16 months but well starting fresh it's a bit over whelming.

I moved from New jersey in march. I had never lived in any other state and left everyone I knew other then my father. It takes awhile to get used to it, but it's good to change sometimes. I've made new friends, learned many new things that I wouldn't have had I stayied where I was. Do I miss jersey, yes. Do I think I made the right choice, yes most of the time. What ever you do I wish you luck.

Yes. I moved to Wilmington, NC in 1996 all by myself. I knew no one. I moved to Sunnyvale, CA in 1999 for an internship knowing no on. I moved again in 2003 to the Middle West in a similar situation, but with my wife.

Me and hubby (then BF) started dating in August 2002 in Asheville, NC where we met through mutual friends at our local cruising strip. He found another Golf Pro job out of state in Nov. 2002. He moved early Dec. 2002. I told him I was going to move with him as soon as he got settled. He thought I was joking with him. Jan. 2003 I went down to Jax on a two day trip realized I wanted to move asap. I quit my job, left my parents and childhood/college friends, left my car and only had $1k to my name to move to Jacksonville, FL and be with him in March 2003. Turns out one of my Uncle's was living in Orlando at the same time I was down there, but no one talked to me from my New York family. I didn't have a job for 10 months when I moved there. If working for Captin D's for a month under the table counts, then I worked. I called my parents, my best friend Amanda and my (then) other best friend Amanda everyday begging for someone to come get me and bring me back. I use to write letters to an old co-worker whom I was close with and tell him I made the biggest mistake of my life moving away. Then I realized there was a beach 10 minutes away with a Starbucks across the street. I had my 91 Integra then, so guys would pull up to me and shoot the shit. Found out the local hangout spots and the track. Joined a Yahoo Jax Chat and met even more folks. Lots of good parties and clubbing with them and long time friends. It made it bareable to where I wish I never left Florida until we moved to Chicago in March 2005 when Hubby's dad got sick and was on his death bed at the time. Hubby is orignally from Chicago but was starting fresh again. That was a tramatic move for me. My cat "Booty" ran away the day we were moving. I cried the entire trip up here. Once we got to Chicago it fucking snowed. My life got better because I had a job to where I could transfer and no money issues. My parents use to be 450 miles away, now 670 miles away. Next year, OVER NINE THOUSAND miles away to the moon! LOL! But you learn to adapt. I still wanna go back to Florida. :-(

I remember hearing the stats about NYC, that would be the shit Max!

I've lived in many houses, but all in the same town.

I moved to Rock Springs Wyoming in 1999 all by myself and it was the most depressing time of my life. I was all lonely and shit, nobody liked me, my coworkers nicknamed me "bugaboo" and the boss was okay with that. I fucking hate Wyoming. There was less than 20k people in that little freaking town and nobody seemed to be very friendly. I was too young to drink at the time, so I didn't make very many friends since Wyoming's only two past times include hanging around wal-mart talking with your drinking buddies or hanging out at a bar drinking with your buddies.

I went to Cambodia in 2002 by myself and stuck around for about 3 months (was supposed to be there a year) before doing a tour of Asia, then returning to the states. Somewhere on that backpacking adventure, I met my wife on a public bus in Thailand and I also met my current best friend in the Taipei Int'l airport's smoking room. Good times, good times...

I moved around Texas a few times as a child, but I always had family at that point. At 13, my father and I moved to Pennsylvania, without a friend, family member, or familiar place within 1600 miles. 5 years later, when I was 18, my dad moved back to Texas, and I stayed in PA by myself.

I can relate to not having that sense of security that you are so familiar with when you live close to your family. It was hard, but it made me a better person. I pretty much stopped talking to my family as I finished growing up, because I knew that there was a good reason everything unfolded the way that it did.

Keep your head up, this will be a life changing experience for you. :)

i moved to a different country for school. lived there a total of 3 and a half years and i was mostly homesick and miserable for 2 of those years.

the last year and a half was amazing b/c i finally decided to stop being such a miserable fuck.

there's a lot more to this story but basically what littlemissy said... home is where you make it.
